Hh Exports

Down by Veraval Port in the Junagadh District, you’ll find Hh Exports. Being near the port means everything smells a bit like salt and the sea. It’s a rough-and-tumble kind of place with a lot of heavy trucks and shouting workers. We have a small office that stays quite dusty because of all the activity outside. We spend our days dealing with the logistics of moving goods through the port. There’s a lot of waiting around for ships to dock and then a mad rush to get things loaded. We don’t have a fancy corporate office with carpets and paintings. It’s mostly concrete floors and metal desks. The noise of the cranes is the background music to our day. We drink a lot of strong coffee to keep going when the shipments come in late at night. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit in the dark for a bit, talking about nothing in particular until it comes back on. We know the dockworkers and the customs people by their first names. It’s a hard-working atmosphere and we fit right in. We don’t use a lot of big words or complicated plans. We just look at what needs to go out and figure out the best way to get it onto a boat. It’s honest work and the sea air keeps us awake, even on the long days when the heat is heavy. We just keep the records moving and the boxes stacked.
