Sri Bala Sundaram Modern Rice Mill

The mill is located in Pazhakambur, right along the Ceiyar Road. We’ve been running Sri Bala Sundaram Modern Rice Mill for a good few years now. It’s a noisy place, always the sound of machines humming and husks flying around. We take the raw paddy from the local fields in Irumbedu Taluka and turn it into rice. It’s dusty work, and we all go home covered in white powder at the end of the shift. Arani is known for rice, so we have plenty of competition around here. We just try to keep our machines running smooth and the quality decent. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything grinds to a halt, which is frustrating. We don't have a big front office. If you want to talk to us, you usually have to shout over the noise of the hullers. It’s a lot of physical labor, stacking heavy sacks and loading them onto trucks. My brother handles the engine maintenance while I look after the grain coming in. We don’t have a website or fancy brochures. The smell of toasted grain is everywhere. It’s a hard way to earn a living, but it’s what our family has done for a long time. People from all over the Arani area bring their harvest to us. We just keep our heads down and keep the belts turning.
