Shaheena Exports & Imports

Over at 53/a O. V. Road in Ambur, Vellore District, we run Shaheena Exports & Imports. The road is often quite busy with trucks and buses passing through, so there’s always a bit of a hum in the background. Our building is a simple one, nothing too modern, but it stays relatively cool inside even when the sun is beating down on the street. We deal with both importing and exporting, so there’s a constant flow of different things coming through our doors. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of what arrives and making sure the outgoing stuff is packed securely. It’s not a job for someone who doesn't like details. We’ve got a big wooden table where we do most of the sorting, and it’s seen a lot of use over the years. There are usually three or four of us in here at any given time, each busy with our own part of the process. We don't have a big corporate manual or anything like that. We just learned the business by doing it every day. Sometimes we have to stay late because a shipment arrived behind schedule, but we just put the radio on and get through it. It’s a practical way to spend the day, and we take some pride in just being reliable. We’re just a local business doing our part in the community. One of the desk legs is a bit wobbly, but we’ve propped it up with some folded cardboard.
