R. K. Leathers

R. K. Leathers operates out of No. 57 / B 2 in the Sipcot Industrial Complex in Ranipet. It’s a busy part of town where the air usually smells like salt and chemicals from all the leather work going on around here. The building isn't anything fancy to look at, just a practical space where we get the work done every day. Most mornings start early before the sun gets too high and makes the tin roof get really hot. We spend a lot of time moving hides around and checking the drums. There’s always a lot of noise from the machines and people shouting over them to be heard. It gets pretty dusty inside, so we keep the doors open when the wind allows it. The industrial complex is a big place, and we’ve been tucked away in this specific spot for quite a while now. Neighbors come and go, but the routine stays mostly the same for us. We drink a lot of tea while looking over the orders that come in. Sometimes the power goes out and everything goes quiet for a bit, which is a nice break if we aren't in a huge rush. We just focus on getting the leather ready and out the door to wherever it needs to go next. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know.
