You can find us at No. 101 on Thottu Street in Nemeli, which is part of the Arakkonam area. It is a bit of a drive to get out here, but it is quieter than the city. The building is an old one and we have been using it for our export work for a good while. We spend a lot of time on the phone with people in Chennai or at the ports, making sure our shipments are on track. The dusty roads around here mean we have to wipe down the desks every single morning before we start. It is mostly just us and a few local guys who help with the loading. We don't have a big computer system, just some old ledgers and a laptop that takes forever to start up. During the rainy season, the street gets a bit muddy, so we have to be careful with the goods. We usually have lunch together in the back room and talk about whatever is happening in the village. It is a simple way of working. We don't go in for big meetings or anything like that. We just look at what needs to be shipped out today and we get to it. Sometimes the neighbors come by to chat for a few minutes. It is a relaxed place but we still work hard to make sure the boxes are packed right and the paperwork is finished before the sun goes down.
