BHEL

I work over at the Dc/Aqcs section of BHEL. It’s a massive place, almost like a small city on its own. You have to show your pass every time you go through the gates, and there’s a lot of walking involved just to get from one building to another. My day usually starts with checking the logbooks and seeing what happened during the night shift. We deal with some pretty complex systems that handle the air and dust control, but for us, it’s just the daily routine of checking gauges and making sure the levels stay where they should be. The canteen is where everyone meets up, and you see people from all different departments talking about their work or just complaining about the weather. It’s a very organized environment, which is different from some of the smaller shops I’ve seen. Everything has a procedure and a specific form that needs to be filled out. Sometimes it feels like there’s a lot of paperwork, but that’s just how a big place like this operates. We have old desks and metal filing cabinets that have been here since before I started. It’s not a modern, shiny office, but it’s sturdy and functional. We just come in, do our hours, and try to make sure everything is running smoothly before we head home in the evening. It’s steady work and it keeps us occupied throughout the year. We take pride in just doing the job right.
