We’ve been here in Maheshpur, Lahartara for a while now. The studio is right at D65/333. Most days, it gets pretty loud around here once the music starts up and the students show up after their school is done. Varanasi can get really hot, so the fans are always going full speed while everyone is practicing their steps. It’s not some big fancy place with glass walls everywhere, just a regular space where people come to move around. You’ll usually find someone sweeping the floor before the evening batch starts because the dust from the road outside always finds its way in. We don’t really do much besides focus on the rhythm. Some of the younger kids are just here to jump around, but the older ones take it a bit more seriously. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that’s just how things go around here. Neighbors know us by the sound of the drums or the Bollywood songs playing late into the afternoon. It’s a busy corner in Lahartara, especially when parents are waiting outside on their scooters to pick up their children. We’ve had the same old furniture in the corner for years. It’s just a place where we spend our time teaching what we know. Nothing too complicated about it. We just keep the doors open and let the music play every single day. There is no point in making it sound more glamorous than it is.
