Varanasi is a crowded place, and our spot in Sudamapur Lanka is no exception. Regal Silk LLP is located at N 15/104 A 1, and if you know this area, you know how busy the lanes can get. The sound of the looms is like a background song that never really stops in this part of town. We spend our mornings checking the silk threads and getting the looms set up for the day. It’s a bit cramped inside because we have so much material tucked into every corner. The air always smells a little bit like raw silk and old wood. We don’t really do anything fancy with the office; it’s just a place to sit and talk to people who come by. Lanka is a lively area with plenty of students and shoppers around, so there’s always something happening outside the door. We drink a lot of chai while we work, usually from the vendor who passes by every few hours. The humidity in Varanasi can make the silk a bit tricky to handle sometimes, but we’ve learned how to deal with it over the years. It’s not a big corporate setup, just a bunch of us who know silk well. We stay busy with the local trade and the people who have been buying from this area for generations.
