Nurul Haque Silks Private Limited

We are over here in Lohta, right in the Islampur area of Varanasi. It's mostly just family working here at Nurul Haque Silks Private Limited. My father, Mohd. Nurul Haque, started things and we’ve stayed in this same spot for quite a while now. Varanasi is known for silk, so that's what we do every single day. The looms make a lot of noise but you get used to it after a few years. People come by the house since the office is just part of where we live. We spend our mornings checking the threads and making sure the weavers have what they need. It isn’t some big fancy factory with glass walls. It's just a regular building in a busy neighborhood where everyone knows each other. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. We handle the local orders and sometimes people from further away call us up. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us packing boxes and making sure the patterns look right. Life in Islampur is slow but we stay busy enough. There is always some silk to move or some yarn to dye. We've been doing this long enough that it's just second nature now. It’s hard work, especially when the weather gets really hot in the summer, but we keep at it and get things done for our neighbors.
