Monu Store

Monu Store is located in the Kabir Chaura area of Varanasi, specifically on Jalpa Devi Road. Our shop number is 58. We are near Visheshwarganj and not too far from the Kotwali. Varanasi is a city of very narrow lanes and old buildings, and our shop fits right in. It is a small general store. I sell things like matches, tea, and basic household items. The shop has been in the family for a little while now. It is a very small space—you can barely fit three people inside at once. Most customers just stand outside the wooden counter on the street. It is always noisy here with the bells from the temples and the constant sound of rickshaws passing by. I sit on a wooden stool most of the day, watching the world go by and waiting for customers. Sometimes business is slow, especially during the middle of the day when it is too hot to be out, but it picks up in the evening. I do not have a computer or even a proper sign out front anymore, as the old one broke. People just know where the shop is. It is an honest way to make a living. I know all the local talk because everyone stops to chat for a minute. The walls are a bit stained from years of use, and the ceiling is very low. It is just a typical corner shop in an old city. We do not do anything special, just provide the basics.
