Durga Khad Store

Our store is tucked into Vijay Nagar Market, right by the Varanasi Cantt area. Being so close to the railway station means there is always noise and people rushing around. It’s a lively part of town, though it can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to the crowds. We spend most of our time at the shop dealing with different supplies. The bags can be heavy, and sometimes the smell of the stock is quite strong, but you get used to it after a few days. The shop itself is simple. We have a desk in the corner where we do all the paperwork by hand. The light isn't great in the back, but we manage just fine. Customers come in looking for specific things for their land or gardens. We talk about the weather a lot because it affects everyone’s work around here. If it rains, the market gets muddy. If it's hot, we sit under the ceiling fan and drink tea while waiting for the next person to walk in. It’s been our routine for years. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place in the market where people can get what they need without a fuss. You can find us easily if you walk down from the station. We keep the doors open late most nights because the market stays active until the last trains come in. Most of our regulars know to find us here regardless of the season or the station's rush.
