Nsb Fashions is tucked away on the second floor of Sri Radha Krishna Palace. Our address is Ck. 39/22 in Kundigar Tola, which is right behind the old Chitra Cinema in the Chowk area of Varanasi. It’s a very old part of the city with narrow lanes that can be a bit of a puzzle for newcomers. We have been operating from this building for a long time. The space is filled with traditional clothes and the kinds of fabrics that Varanasi is famous for. It’s usually quite loud outside with the sounds of the market and the temple bells, but up on the second floor, we have a bit of peace. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who know the business well. I usually sit on a cushion on the floor when I’m checking the work because it’s more comfortable than a chair. The stairs up to the shop are a bit steep and narrow, which makes carrying the heavy bundles of cloth a real workout. We don’t do any big advertising. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to us for years or those who were told about us by a friend. We take our time with each piece of clothing, making sure the embroidery is right. It’s a slow and steady kind of life, surrounded by colors and the history of this old city.
