Ojess

Ojess is a shop located on the Bindra Bazar Main Road in Azamgarh. It is a very busy street, especially on market days when you can hardly move for all the people and cycles passing by. Our place is right in the middle of all that noise and activity. We sell various things, and the shelves are usually packed tight from the floor to the ceiling. Sometimes it is hard to find exactly what a customer wants right away, so we have to climb up the ladder and hunt for it in the back. The shop floor is small, so when more than three people come in at once, it feels very crowded. We do not have fancy air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day long. We start early, sweeping the front of the shop and setting out some of the items on the sidewalk to show people what we have in stock. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to Bindra Bazar for many years. We know most of them by face, if not by name. There is always someone stopping in just to chat for a minute while they are out doing their daily shopping. We keep a handwritten ledger on the counter for all the daily sales, and at night, we count everything up under a dim light. It is a simple business, just buying and selling and trying to make sure the stock does not run out.
