Atul Departmental Store

Our shop, Atul Departmental Store, is right on Sigra Road at D-64/132. If you are near the Bharat Sewa Aashram Sangh, you are very close to us. It is a lively part of Varanasi with a lot of people walking by at all hours. We call it a departmental store, but it is really just a larger version of the local shops we all grew up with. We try to stock a bit more variety than the tiny stalls, like different brands of tea and more choices for cleaning supplies. It is a bit of a struggle to keep everything organized, especially when we get a big shipment of cold drinks in the summer months. The fridge hums all day long, and the fans are always on to keep the heat away. My family has been working in this trade for a long time now. We know the distributors well, and we know our customers even better. Sometimes people come in just to escape the sun for a minute and have a chat about the local news. We do not mind at all. It makes the day go by faster. The noise from Sigra Road is constant, with horns and people shouting, but after a while, you just stop hearing it. We focus on weighing out the grains and making sure the billing is right. It is honest work. We are not looking to expand, we just like running our shop.
