We've been at Zanda Chowk for quite a while now. Most days you'll find us covered in sawdust or moving heavy timber around the shop floor. It's a messy job but we enjoy working with our hands. People from around Vapi come in looking for something specific, maybe a new bed frame or a sturdy table that won't wobble after a week. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Instead, it’s just the workshop where the tools live. My father taught me most of what I know about wood, and now the rest of the guys here keep that going. Sometimes the glue takes longer to dry than we want because of the humidity, so we just have to wait. It’s not a fast process. We try to make things that last longer than the stuff you buy in those big flat-pack boxes. If you walk past the chowk, you’ll likely hear the saw running. We usually have tea around four in the afternoon if the work allows it. The wood piles up in the corner and we just keep cutting and joining until the piece looks right. It’s hard work on the back, but seeing a finished cabinet leave the door makes it worth the effort. We don't do much advertising, just word of mouth from people who’ve bought from us before.
