Veera Da Dhabha

Out here in Umbergaon, life moves at its own speed. We are Veera Da Dhabha, and you can find us easily enough in Daman. It’s not the kind of place with air conditioning or fancy menus. We just have the basic stuff that people need when they are traveling. The road outside is usually dusty, and we spend a good amount of time just keeping the tables clean. We aren't some big chain of restaurants. It’s just a few of us here. We wake up early to get the fire going and stay late until the last person leaves. Daman has that sea breeze sometimes, but mostly it’s just the heat of the road. We’ve seen the same truck drivers pass through for years. They know the sign and they know where to park. The chairs are a bit old and maybe they creak a little, but they work fine. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just see the dhabha and stop. It’s a practical way to live. We’ve got the pots and the spices and the regular routine. Sometimes it rains hard and we have to move everything inside, but that’s just part of it. We are just a local spot in Umbergaon doing what we’ve always done. No one here is trying to be a celebrity chef. We’re just working.
