Our place, Shri Sarvoday Saw Mill, is right across from the Arts and Commerce College here in Savli. It’s a noisy place with the machines running but that’s just the nature of the work. We’ve been cutting timber for quite some time. The yard gets dusty, especially when it’s dry out. Most of the guys here have been working with wood for years. We handle different types of logs that come in from around the area. It’s hard work, physical and long hours, but it’s what we know. The college students walk by every day and sometimes they stop to watch for a second. We don't have a big corporate office or anything. It's mostly just the mill and the storage space for the finished planks. We try to keep the blades sharp and the stacks straight. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, like when it rains and the ground gets muddy, but we keep at it. Savli is a quiet place otherwise. We know most of our neighbors. If you need some wood cut to size, you just come by and talk to us. No need for anything formal. We keep a ledger of what goes in and out. It’s a simple setup. Some days are slower than others but there is always something that needs stacking or moving. We just take it one day at a time. We've been part of this community for years and don't plan on going anywhere else.
