Shiv Sadhana Nrutya Sangeet Academy

The academy is over on Vip Road, at number 22. It’s a place where there’s almost always some kind of music or the sound of feet hitting the floor. Shiv Sadhana Nrutya Sangeet Academy isn't some big glass building, it’s just a space we’ve set up for teaching dance and music to the local kids and anyone else who wants to learn. In the evenings, the street gets a bit busy with people coming home from work, and you can hear the tabla or the harmonium drifting out the windows. We started small and stayed that way because it's easier to manage. The floor is wooden, which is better for the dancing, and we have some mirrors along one wall that we put up ourselves. Sometimes the instruments need tuning or a string breaks, so there’s always a bit of maintenance going on. It’s not about being the most famous school in the city, it’s just about having a place on Vip Road where people can come and practice. We’ve got some old photos on the wall from past programs, mostly just to show the students how much they’ve improved over the months. If you walk past in the late afternoon, you’ll probably see a few parents waiting outside on the steps. It’s a friendly enough place, a bit noisy, but we like it that way because it means people are actually learning something and enjoying the music.
