Starting the day at Shiv Hardware usually means getting the shutters up at Shop No. 19 and dusting off the counters before the first people show up. Being on the ground floor of Suner Complex in Hari Nagar keeps us pretty busy because folks are always coming in for something they forgot for a home project. It might be a handful of nails or a specific wrench, and sometimes we spend ten minutes just looking through bins to find the right part for someone. The shop isn't fancy at all, it’s mostly just rows of shelves and boxes stacked high against the walls. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when a big delivery comes in and we have to move stuff around just to make space to walk. We’ve been here a while now, so we know most of the faces that walk through the door. It’s not just about selling tools, it’s more about being part of the neighborhood. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk about the weather or whatever else is happening in Hari Nagar. Other days, three people want paint mixed at the same time and it gets a bit chaotic. We try to keep things organized but hardware stores have a way of getting messy no matter what you do. There’s always a bit of grease on the floor or a smell of metal in the air, which is just how it is. It’s hard work, especially moving the heavier items, but it’s a living.
