You’ll find us at Chasmawala House, which is tucked behind the Vihar Cinema on Pratapnagar Road. It’s an old building but it has a lot of character. We’ve been here for a long time, selling glasses and fixing frames. The shop is small and filled with cabinets that have hundreds of different lenses and frames inside. It’s a bit cramped when we have more than a few people in at once, but we make it work. The street outside is always noisy because of the cinema and the general traffic on Pratapnagar Road. We usually have a radio playing in the background to drown out some of the noise. We spend our time testing eyes and helping people pick out something that looks okay on their face. It’s not a fancy boutique; it’s more of a neighborhood shop where people come because they know us. The lighting is bright so we can see what we are doing with the small screws and delicate parts. Sometimes we have to wait a bit for parts to come in, but we try to keep the basics in stock. We don’t have a website or any big ads, just the sign out front and the word of mouth from people in the area. It’s a simple way to earn a living, and we enjoy seeing the same faces come back after a few years. It gets a bit dusty with the road right there, so we are always wiping down the glass cases.
