Shree Gayatri Ice Industries

Running an ice factory like Shree Gayatri Ice Industries at Plot No. 989-1b in the Gidc Ind. Estate is a bit different from the other businesses around here. While everyone else is dealing with heat and metal, we are mostly dealing with freezing water and heavy blocks. The floor is almost always wet, so you have to watch your step or you’ll end up sliding across the room. We wear thick boots and sometimes jackets, even when it is scorching hot outside. The compressors make a low humming sound that you eventually stop hearing after a few hours. We get a lot of trucks coming in at odd hours, especially during the summer months when everyone needs ice. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting the blocks out of the tanks and sliding them into the storage area. We don't have much of an office to speak of, just a small corner with a table and a ledger to track the deliveries. Sometimes the pipes freeze up or a pump stops working, and then we have to spend the whole day fixing it while trying not to let the stock melt. It’s a simple business but it keeps us on our toes. We don't do any big marketing or sales pitches. People just know where to find us when they need to cool things down for their own businesses.
