Jyoti Furniture

Our furniture shop is located over in the Chhani area, specifically in the Jethabhai Park Society. We are at number 66 in Surajnagar, which is very close to the canal on New Sama Road. Being near the water is nice, but it does make the air a bit damp sometimes, which we have to watch out for with the wood. We have all sorts of chairs and tables squeezed into the shop. It is a bit of a tight fit, and sometimes you have to turn sideways to walk through the aisles. We spend most of the day cutting wood or fixing up pieces that people bring in. The noise from the saws is constant, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard. It is a family thing, really. We grew up around the smell of sawdust and polish. The neighborhood is changing quite a bit with more people moving onto New Sama Road, but we have stayed in our little corner of the society. We don’t have any fancy catalogs to show people. Usually, they just come in, look at what we have on the floor, and we talk about what they need. It is a very direct way of doing things. Our floor is always covered in a thin layer of dust no matter how much we sweep. It is just part of the life of a furniture maker in this part of town, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
