Jay Ranchod Kirana Store

Jay Ranchod Kirana Store is located on the Main Road in Gotri, Vadodara, not too far from Chandan Cinema. It’s a busy part of the 390021 area. We deal in all the usual kirana items like grains, pulses, sugar, and oil. The store is filled with the smell of spices and big sacks of flour stacked in the corners. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions for customers who want specific amounts. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bags and filling up jars. The shop floor is a bit uneven in places, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We open up early to catch the people heading out for their day. Around here, everyone knows everyone, so there’s a lot of talk while we bag up the groceries. During the festival seasons, it gets really hectic and we barely have time to sit down. We keep a ledger for the regulars, writing down what they took if they are paying later. It’s an old-school way of doing things, but it’s what we know. The fan in the ceiling squeaks a little, but it keeps the air moving during the hot Vadodara afternoons. We just try to keep the basics in stock so no one has to go too far to find what they need for dinner. It’s a simple life, just running the store and seeing the same faces. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the road.
