Furniture Planet

If you walk down Pratap Nagar Road and look right opposite where the Appsara Cinema used to be, you will see our shop, Furniture Planet. It is a bit of a dusty place because we are always cutting wood or sanding down some old chair that someone brought in to get fixed. My father started this a long time ago, and I just sort of stayed here and kept it going. We have all kinds of stuff piled up, from big wardrobes to those small stools people use in their kitchens. The traffic outside can get pretty loud, especially when a movie is letting out or there is a jam at the junction. Sometimes we sit out on the front step and watch the people go by while we wait for the glue to dry on a joint. We don't really do those fancy catalogs like the big stores in the malls do. Usually, someone just comes in with a drawing on a piece of paper or shows us a picture on their phone. We look at it, tell them if it’s possible with the wood we have, and then we get to work. It takes time, and sometimes we run a bit late because the varnish didn't dry right in the humidity. We use solid wood mostly because it lasts longer than that compressed stuff you see everywhere else. It’s just how we do things here and how we have done it for years.
