The clinic is over on Vasna Road, not too far from the Vasna Jakat Naka. It is a familiar spot for most people living around C-23. Every morning starts with unlocking the front door and getting the waiting room ready. The chairs are a bit old, but they are sturdy enough. Being a doctor here means seeing a lot of the same neighbors over and over again. You get to know their families and what has been bothering them lately. It isn't like those big hospitals where nobody knows your name. Here, it is just me and a small staff. The shelves are full of medical books and files that have been there for years. I spend most of my day listening to people describe their aches and pains. Sometimes the fan overhead clicks rhythmically while I write out notes. It can get quite busy in the evenings when everyone finishes work and stops by. There is a specific smell to the place—a mix of disinfectant and old paper. I don't really have a fancy office setup. Just a desk, a stethoscope, and enough light to see what I am doing. Outside, the traffic on Vasna Road is a constant hum that fades into the background after a while. It is a simple practice. I stay focused on what is right in front of me, helping one person at a time until it is time to go home.
