A One Hardware

A One Hardware in Vadodara 21. The shop is full of boxes and metal things. If you walk in, you might have to squeeze past a ladder or some buckets of paint. We have all the small bits like screws and nails that people always seem to lose. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling and I usually need the stool to reach the top ones where the older stock sits. Vadodara gets quite dusty so I have to wipe the counters down every morning before the first person walks in. It is mostly just me and sometimes a helper. We handle a lot of heavy things so the floor has some scratches on it. People come here when something breaks at home or they are trying to fix a leaky pipe. I don't really have a computer system for everything, I just know where most things are kept by memory. If I don't have it, I usually know who does. It is a simple way of working. The lighting inside isn't the brightest but you can see what you are buying. We open early because that is when the workmen are heading out to their jobs and need supplies. It is a quiet kind of life just counting out bolts and chatting with the regulars who have been coming here for years. We carry hammers and saws and some basic plumbing stuff.
