About Sirsi Spice Processors' Association – Food & Beverages in Uttara Kannada
We operate out of a building called Swastik in the Rayarpet area of Sirsi. Since this region is famous for spices, it made sense for us to set up here. This isn’t really a big corporate company, but more of a group of us coming together to process what the local land gives. The office is usually cluttered with papers and samples of whatever is being handled that week. You can usually smell pepper or cardamom long before you actually get to the door. Rayarpet is a busy part of town with a lot of movement. There are always people coming in to check on their lots or talk about how the prices are moving. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy lobby. If you walk in, you’ll probably find someone at a wooden desk covered in old ledgers. It gets quite loud during the peak season when the spice harvest comes in from the farms. We try to keep things organized, but when you have so many different people involved, it can get a bit messy. We aren't interested in being fancy or looking polished. The floor is just plain concrete, and the ceiling fans are always humming. We deal with the realities of farming and processing every single day. Power cuts happen quite often, and we just wait it out or find something else to do by hand. It’s a community effort, really. This is just how we earn our living, working with the spices in our hills.
