Bachpan

Bachpan is situated at 153, Bada Sarafa, near Sati Gate in Ujjain City. This is a very old and busy part of Ujjain, so there is always something going on outside our door. We focus on the younger children, so the inside of our building looks a lot different from the shops outside. We have lots of toys and drawings on the walls to keep things interesting for the little ones. It’s not a huge place, just a few rooms where we can watch over the kids while their parents are at work. The floors are often covered in crayons or building blocks by noon. We don’t have a big corporate team running things from far away. It’s just us here on the ground, making sure nobody gets hurt and everyone gets a bit of a snack during the break. The heat in Ujjain can be tough, so we try to keep the rooms as cool as possible. Our staff consists of local women who are good with children. We don't use any fancy teaching methods, just basic play and learning the alphabet. Sometimes the plumbing acts up or we need to repaint a wall because of all the handprints, but we just deal with it as it comes. It’s a simple, local school that fits right into the neighborhood. People know where we are if they need a place for their children to go.
