Todays Shyam Marble

Our yard is located in Sukher on N. H. 8, sitting right near the Amar Jyoti Granites building. It’s a busy stretch of road with a lot of trucks carrying heavy loads back and forth. We mostly deal with marble slabs and we keep a pretty big variety out in the yard. Every day is about the same routine. We open up, check if any new loads came in overnight, and then start organizing the rows. It gets very dusty out here, and we usually have to spray the stones with water just so people can see the true color and pattern hidden under the grime. Working in Sukher means being part of a big community of stone dealers, but we just stick to our own work. We don't have any fancy marketing people. It is just us and the stone. If someone walks in, we show them what is available in the stacks. Some slabs are huge and take several men to move, while others are smaller. We try to keep a mix so there is something for every kind of project. The wind blows the sand across the highway and into our yard, so keeping things clean is a constant battle. But that is the nature of the business when you’re working with marble on the main road.
