Shyam Marble

Up in Sukher, specifically on the Mai Road in Bhuwana, you will find Shyam Marble. If you know this area, you know it’s the heart of the stone trade. Our place is pretty much what you would expect from a marble yard. It’s wide open, dusty, and full of heavy slabs. We spend our days walking between the rows of stone, showing people the different patterns and colors. The sun can be quite brutal out here, so we usually wear caps and try to stay in the shade of the slabs when we can. We don't have a fancy showroom with air conditioning. We just have our yard and a small office where the paperwork gets done. The Mai Road is always busy with tractors and big trucks carrying huge blocks of marble from the quarries. You can hear the sound of saws cutting stone in the distance almost all day long. It's a gritty kind of work. Your hands get calloused and your clothes never really stay clean for long. We don't have a big mission statement or anything like that. We just help people pick out the right stone for their floors or counters. Sometimes the slabs have small cracks or imperfections, and we have to be honest about that with anyone who asks. It’s a straightforward business. We show up, we move some stone, and we go home. That is how it works for us here in Bhuwana, just working the Mai Road every day.
