Our office and yard are located right across from the Eklingnath Petrol Pumps on N. H. 8 in Sukher. It’s a handy landmark because almost everyone knows where the pumps are. Working here means we get a lot of dust from the highway, but that is just part of being in the marble and granite trade in this area. We’ve got piles of granite and marble slabs everywhere. Some days are busier than others, especially when the big shipments arrive from the quarries. We have a small crew that helps with the loading and unloading. It’s hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the stone. We don’t spend much time on fancy decorations or making the place look like a mall. It’s a working yard. Most of our day is spent walking around the slabs with people, showing them the patterns and the colors. We try to keep a decent variety so there is something for everyone who walks in. The noise from the trucks on N. H. 8 is constant, but you get used to it after a week or two. We handle the paperwork in a small room near the entrance. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living. Shubh Mangal has been operating here for a while now, and we just keep doing what we know, which is moving stone from one place to another and making sure it gets where it needs to go. It’s a steady life.
