Shreenath Kirana General Store

The shop is sitting right there in Malla Talai, close to Haridas ji Ki Magri. We’ve been here for a while now, just doing our thing. It’s a typical kirana store where you’ll find sacks of grains tucked into the corners and stacks of soap boxes reaching up to the ceiling. Every morning starts with sweeping the front and getting the jars of candies lined up where the kids can see them. People from the neighborhood drop by for all sorts of small things, maybe a liter of oil or some loose tea leaves. The fan overhead makes a bit of a clicking sound when it’s on full speed, but it helps with the heat. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s mostly just shelves filled with lentils, spices, and cleaning supplies. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road for a bit while they unload the flour bags. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their names. It’s quiet in the afternoons when the sun is high, but things pick up again when everyone is headed home from work. We just keep the inventory stocked as best as we can and try to remember who prefers which brand of detergent. There’s usually a bit of dust because of the road outside, so wiping down the counters is a constant job. That’s just how it goes here. It is just a simple place for your daily needs.
