Shivani Marble

Our place is situated on N.H. 8 over in Keshriyaji, not too far from Kuldeep Engineering. Being near an engineering shop means there is always some kind of noise or activity happening around us. We deal in marble, which means our yard is a bit of a maze of stone slabs leaning against each other. It’s a heavy business. We start early in the morning before the sun gets too high because once the heat hits, moving these stones becomes much harder. We don't have a polished showroom with air conditioning; it’s just the yard and the office where we keep our papers. Most of our time is spent out with the slabs, checking the quality and seeing what needs to be moved. People stop in because they see the signs from the highway. We talk to them about what they need for their floors or walls. It’s a straightforward process. We don't use a lot of big words or try to push things on people. If they like a slab, they like it. The marble comes from the quarries and ends up here, waiting for someone to take it home. There is always a layer of fine white dust on our clothes and boots by the end of the shift. That is just how life is when you work with stone in Keshriyaji.
