Shanti Provision Store

Shanti Provision Store is right on the Ashok Nagar Main Road, so we get a lot of people stopping by on their way home. The front of the shop is usually lined with bags of flour or stacks of oil tins. Inside, it’s organized in a way that only we really understand. We have everything from tea leaves to laundry detergent piled up on the shelves. The ceiling fan wobbles a little bit, but it keeps the air moving during the hot afternoons. We spend a lot of time weighing out items or counting change for the kids who come in for a single piece of candy. It’s a busy life. There is no background music or fancy lighting here, just the sound of the traffic outside and the occasional chat with a regular customer. Sometimes the delivery trucks arrive at the same time and things get a bit chaotic on the sidewalk. We have to move quickly to get the milk crates and bread inside before they sit in the sun too long. The floor is swept every morning, but it gets dusty again by noon because of the road. It’s a steady kind of work. We see the same people every day, and we know who likes which brand of pulses or which soap they prefer without them having to ask twice.
