Shah Hiralal Sohanlal Jain is a name that people in Dhanmandi have been seeing for a very long time. This part of the city is always packed, with narrow lanes and a lot of noise from the markets around us. We operate in a very traditional way, the same way things were done when Hiralal and Sohanlal first got into the trade. Our space is filled with the smell of grains and the sound of people bargaining outside. We don’t have a website or any fancy brochures to show people because that’s not how we work here. We mostly rely on our registers and the people we’ve known for decades. The office is small and tucked away, with stacks of old papers and a ceiling fan that clicks while it spins. It’s not the most comfortable place when it’s mid-afternoon and the market is at its busiest, but we are used to it. We just focus on the daily tasks, checking the quality of what comes in and making sure the accounts are right. It’s a lot of sitting and talking, often over a cup of tea that someone brought from the corner stall. We don't try to be anything we aren't; we are just a family-run setup in the middle of the crowded Dhanmandi market, doing what we know how to do.
