Sagasji Namkeen Bhandar

Sagasji Namkeen Bhandar is located over by Gulab Bagh. It’s a nice area because of the garden nearby. We get a lot of people who have been for a walk in the park and want to take some snacks home. We mostly do namkeen, so there are always lots of crunchy bits and spices around. We spend a lot of time sifting flour and mixing in the spices by hand. It’s a dusty job, and you end up sneezing quite a bit from the chili powder. The shop is small and simple. We have the big jars lined up on the shelves, and we use a metal scoop to fill up the bags. We weigh everything carefully because prices of ingredients keep going up. It’s just a couple of us working here, so if one person is sick, it’s a bit of a struggle to keep up. The floor is concrete and we sweep it several times a day, but the crumbs always find a way back. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just a big fryer and some cooling racks. It’s honest work. We like seeing the regulars and hearing about their day. It’s not a big corporate business, just a local namkeen shop doing things the old way. We keep the shutters open from morning until late evening, making sure we have enough spicy mix for everyone who comes in after their walk.
