Ramji Sweets & Bakers

Being on University Road means we see a lot of students every single day. It stays busy from the moment we open the shutters in the morning. I usually get here while it's still a bit dark to start getting the first batch of milk boiling. The smell of the sweets starts filling the air and people stop by on their way to work or classes. We’ve got the glass counters filled with all sorts of things. Sometimes the students are in such a rush they just grab a packet of biscuits and run. We try to keep everything organized but when the afternoon rush hits, it gets a bit chaotic behind the counter. My brother handles the baking side mostly while I stay out front. The main road is always loud with horns and buses, so we have to speak up quite a bit to hear the orders. We’ve had the shop in this spot for years and the neighborhood has changed a lot around us. There used to be fewer buildings, now everything is crowded. We just focus on getting the sugar levels right and making sure the display looks decent enough. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, but you get used to it. We close up late once the street finally gets quiet. It's just what we do to keep the place running. Sometimes we have a little leftover cake for ourselves at night.
