About Mohan Mawa Bhandar – Food & Beverages in Udaipur
We’ve been here at Mandi Ki Naal 4 for quite a while now. Most mornings start early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because that is when the fresh milk arrives. Mohan Mawa Bhandar is just a small spot, really, but it gets busy fast. We spend most of the day standing over the large kadhais, stirring the milk until it thickens into proper mawa. It is hot work and your arms get tired after a few hours, but that is just how it is. People from the neighborhood come by for their daily needs or when there is a wedding in the family. There are no fancy signs or anything like that out front. The shop has some old wooden benches and the floor gets a bit sticky from the sugar and milk, but we try to keep things moving as best as we can. Sometimes the lane outside gets so crowded with carts and cycles that it’s hard to breathe, but we like the noise. It feels like home here. Most of our customers are people we’ve known for years, so we end up chatting about the weather or the local news while they wait for their orders. It’s not a complicated life, just making sure the mawa is ready and the stove stays lit. We don't do any advertising, we just open the shutters every morning and see who comes through the door.
