Modern Marbles

Modern Marbles is over at G-27 in the Sukher area, right near the NH-8. It’s a busy corner of the world to be in. Our gate stays open most of the day, and we usually have a few guys working the yard to get the marble ready for transport. The ground is always covered in that fine white powder that comes with the territory. We don’t have any fancy showrooms with big lights. Instead, we just have the slabs standing up in the sun so people can see exactly what they are getting. It’s more honest that way. Some of the pieces have been here for a bit, while others go out the same day they arrive. We keep a close eye on the G-27 plot to make sure everything is tidy, or as tidy as a stone yard can be. Dealing with marble requires a lot of patience because you can't rush the cutting or the moving. One wrong move and a whole piece is ruined. We’ve learned to be careful over the years. The heat can get pretty bad in the middle of the day, so we usually take a break in the small shade we have. People stop by on their way down the highway, asking about prices and looking at the different grains in the stone. We just tell them what we know and let them decide. It’s a simple way to run things, but it works for us here in Sukher.
