Mehta Granites & Marbles

Our business is tucked away in Sukher, right behind the old RTO building. This is the heart of the stone district, so there are blocks of marble everywhere you look. We have a yard where we keep the granite and marble slabs stacked up. It’s a very industrial area, so there’s always the noise of machines and heavy vehicles in the air. The ground is made of hard-packed dirt and stone scraps. We spend our days measuring slabs and talking to customers who come in looking for specific colors. It’s a family-run sort of place, nothing like those big corporate offices. The walls of our small office are covered with old calendars and notes pinned up everywhere. We have a small stove in the corner to make tea for ourselves and the workers. Dust is just a part of life here, no matter how much we sweep. We don't have any polished marketing or anything like that. We just show the stone as it is, straight from the quarry. Sometimes we sit outside on plastic chairs when the weather is nice. It’s a tough environment with all the heavy lifting and the heat, but we’ve been doing it this way for years. Most of our day is spent making sure the orders are ready for the trucks that come in the evening. We usually have to wear old clothes because the marble slurry gets on everything and never really washes out properly.
