Marble Heaven

Up here at Sukher Ghati on NH-8, things stay pretty loud with the traffic. We are situated right across from Hotel Palace, so it’s easy to find us if you’re driving through. Dealing with marble isn’t easy; it’s mostly just a lot of sweat and hoping the weather stays clear so we can move the inventory around. The yard is full of different slabs we've picked up over the months. Some days are slow and we just spend time cleaning up the edges of the stone or checking the stacks. Other days, it’s a total rush and we’re trying to get things loaded onto trucks while making sure nobody gets hurt. It’s heavy stuff, and you have to be careful with your feet and back. We aren't big on talking ourselves up. We just show up in the morning, open the gates, and start looking at what needs to be moved. The stone gets hot under the sun, and the glare can be a lot. If you walk around the back, you’ll see the pieces that didn't quite make the cut, just sitting there. We've been in Sukher for a while and have seen the neighborhood change, but the work stays the same. It’s basically just moving rock from one place to another and making sure it gets where it needs to go. It’s a simple life, honestly, and we don't mind the noise from the hotel or the road as long as the work keeps coming.
