Marble Bissnuss

We’ve been here at Sukher in the B-4-AUdyog Vihar part of the Ricco Industrial Area for a good while now. It’s a dusty place, honestly, but that’s just how it goes when you’re working with stone all day. People come by looking for different types of marble and we just show them what we have sitting in the yard. Sometimes the sun is really beating down on the slabs, making it hard to see the patterns properly, so we throw some water on them. It’s a basic setup. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. My cousin helps me with the loading when the trucks arrive, which is usually early in the morning before it gets too hot. Most of our days are spent just moving things around or talking to contractors who need a specific size for a floor. We try to keep things organized but with so many blocks coming in from the quarries, it gets messy fast. If you walk around the back, you’ll see where we keep the older stock that’s been sitting for a bit. It’s not a glamorous job. My hands are always rough from the stone, and there’s usually a thin layer of white powder on everything in the office. We just stay busy and keep the gates open for whoever stops by. It's a simple life here in Udaipur’s industrial belt, just selling marble and making sure the counts are right and the trucks get loaded.
