Jagdish Namkin Bhandar

Bhopalwadi 38 is where you can find us, right in the thick of it. This shop has been part of my family for a long time. People know us for the namkin, and we spend most of the day just packing things into plastic bags. The frying starts early in the back room and the heat can get pretty intense during the summer months. We don't have fancy decorations or anything like that. It’s just shelves and scales. A lot of our regulars have been coming here since they were kids and now they bring their own children. I know most people by their face even if I forget their names sometimes. We sell a lot of the spicy stuff, that seems to be the favorite. Sometimes the supply of spices is a bit slow getting here, so we have to manage with what we have on the floor. The street outside is narrow so it gets jammed up with scooters easily. It’s a noisy place to work but I like the energy of the market. We don't bother with big signs or loud music. We just keep the snacks fresh and wait for the regulars to stop by for their evening tea snacks. It’s a lot of hard work but it keeps us busy and the day goes by fast. I usually close up the heavy metal shutters around eight at night.
