Our place is tucked away in Sukher, right behind the Lodha Petrol Pump. If you aren't looking for the turn, you might drive right past us. It is a bit quieter back here compared to the main road, which is nice when we are trying to talk. We have been working with stone here for years. The machines we use are loud and they run almost all day long when we have a big order to get out. Most of the guys working here have been with me for a long time, so we know how each other works without having to say much. We get blocks delivered from the quarries and then we have to figure out the best way to cut them so we don't waste any material. The yard is always full of stacks of slabs and small pieces of off-cuts that we sometimes give away. It gets really hot in the summer and the stone holds the heat, so we try to do the heavy lifting in the early morning or late evening. There is always a layer of white powder on everything, including the old truck we use for deliveries. We don't spend much on advertising because most people just find us by word of mouth or by seeing the sign near the petrol pump. It is hard work and my back usually aches by the end of the shift, but seeing a finished slab go out makes it okay.
