Harish General Store

I've been running Harish General Store at Machala Magra Colony 29 for quite some time now. It’s just a basic neighborhood shop, nothing like those big supermarkets you see in the city. I open the shutters early in the morning, usually before most people are even awake, so I can take the milk deliveries and get the bread sorted. The shop is small, and every inch of wall space is covered with packets of biscuits, soap, and bags of pulses. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two people come in at the same time. I know almost everyone who lives in the colony by their first name, and I usually know what they’re going to buy before they even ask for it. The kids come in for sweets after school, and that’s always the loudest part of my day. I spend a lot of time sitting on my wooden chair, just keeping an eye on the street and chatting with the neighbors who stop by to vent about the weather or the local news. I don't have a computer to keep track of things; I just use a simple notebook and a pen. It’s a long day, sometimes fourteen hours if I stay open late, but it’s what I do. The floor needs a sweep every hour because of the dust, and the shelves always need restocking, but it’s a quiet, steady life here in the colony.
