Gokul Misthan & Dhugdh Bhandar

Gokul Misthan & Dhugdh Bhandar is right at the Subhash Chauraha in Malla Talai Haridas Ji Ki Magri. This corner is always busy with people coming and going. We have been here for a long time serving milk and making different kinds of sweets. The day starts very early for us because we have to get the fresh milk ready before everyone wakes up and comes for their morning tea. We have these big metal containers and the sound of them clanking is something you get used to. In the back, we have the stoves going where we boil down the milk to make mawa and other things for the sweets. It’s a lot of physical work and the air is always thick with the smell of sugar and frying. We don't have a fancy display case, just some glass counters where we put out what we made that morning. People stop by on their way to work or when they are going home in the evening to take something back for their kids. It’s a local spot where everyone knows everyone. I’ve worked here since I was young and I know the routine by heart now. We don't do anything special for marketing, the smell of the sweets usually brings people in. Subhash Chauraha is a landmark for most people around here, and we are just the shop on the corner that sells milk and sweets.
