Geetanjali Marble & Granite

We are located in the Alkapuri area, right along the N. H.-8 highway. Being on the highway means we get a lot of people just stopping by because they saw the stacks from their car. We handle both marble and granite here, which keeps us pretty busy since they require different tools for cutting and polishing. Granite is much harder and tougher on our equipment, so we have to spend a lot of time on maintenance. The yard is a mix of colors from the different stones we get from across the region. My father started this business and I’ve been here since I was a teenager. I remember when this whole road was much quieter than it is now. Now, there is a constant hum of traffic. We have a small crew of about six people who help with the loading and unloading. We don't have a big marketing budget or a website that looks professional. Most of our day is spent moving heavy slabs with the crane and making sure nothing gets chipped. It’s physical work and you have to be careful every single minute. When someone picks out a piece they like, we mark it with their name in chalk and move it to the side. It’s a very manual process and we like it that way because we can see exactly what is happening with every piece of stone.
