Our place, Dhul Shringar Marble Pvt. Ltd., is out on the Ahmedabad Road section of N. H. 8 in Keshariyaji, specifically at Maiyadham. It’s a busy stretch of road with a lot of trucks moving between cities at all hours. We focus on marble because that is what we know best after all these years. The yard is quite big and we have blocks piled up waiting to be cut into slabs. It’s a messy business with all the water and stone dust everywhere, so our clothes are usually covered in white powder by noon. We don't worry too much about appearances here. The main thing is how the stone looks and making sure it gets where it needs to go without getting chipped. We have people stop in from all over since we are right on the highway. Some are just looking and others have a big list of what they need for a new building. We just talk to them like normal people and show them what is in stock at the moment. There is no high-pressure stuff here. We’ve had some good years and some hard ones, but we are still here doing the same thing. The sun is hot in Keshariyaji, so we drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade when the saws are doing their work. It is just honest work with our hands and some heavy machines that we've had for a long time.
