About Revathi Groundnut Mill – Food & Beverages in Tuticorin
We run Revathi Groundnut Mill over at No. 12, Savadi Street. If you walk down the street, you can usually hear us before you see us. The machines for the groundnuts make a specific kind of racket that we have grown used to over the years. We spend our time taking in sacks of nuts and getting them ready. It is a very hands-on process. We have to check the quality and make sure everything is clean. Some days the heat in the shed is quite something, but we just keep at it. We have a regular routine of starting early before the sun gets too high. There are usually bags stacked up against the walls waiting for the next step. People from around here know us for the work we do. We don't spend money on big ads or anything like that. Word of mouth is how most people find their way to Savadi Street. It is a simple operation with a few of us working together. We handle the shells and the kernels and sometimes the oil too. It gets messy and our clothes always smell a bit like the mill, but it is honest work. We take pride in just doing the job well without making a big fuss about it. At the end of the day, we sweep up the floor and lock the gates until tomorrow morning.
