Sri Jayalakshmi Modern Rice Mill

You can find us at 815/3 E.B. Road in the Rattinamangalam part of Arani. Arani is a big place for rice, so we have plenty of neighbors doing the same thing. Our mill has been around for a while. We have the machinery to process different varieties of paddy that come in from the surrounding farms. The building is quite tall to fit the grain elevators. It's a very noisy place once the power is switched on. We spend our mornings unloading sacks and our afternoons loading them back up onto trucks. There is no air conditioning, so it gets pretty warm in the summer months. We usually have a big pot of tea going for the workers in the afternoon. We don't use any fancy software to run the place; we just use our eyes and ears to make sure the rice is coming out right. The bags are stacked in tall rows, and we have to be careful when moving them so they don't topple over. We don't have a website or do any social media. People around here just know us because we’ve been on E.B. Road for so long. It’s a lot of sweat and hard work, but that’s just how it is in the milling business. We keep the machines oiled and the floors as clean as we can. It’s a straightforward way to live.
